Welcome to the 6th CIIE, share the great opportunities brought by China’s large market!

From November 5 to 10, 2022, the 5th CIIE was held in Shanghai, achieving the goal of a safe, wonderful and fruitful event as expected. Since 2018, CIIE has been held for five consecutive sessions. With significantly improved quality and efficiency, and extensive international influence, it has become a showcase of China’s new development paradigm, a platform for high-standard opening-up, and a public good for the whole world.

For a long time, China has actively expanded imports, continuously opened its domestic market, connected with the global market, deepened economic and trade cooperation, and revived global trade. From 2017 to 2021, China’s total import of goods reached 10.8 trillion US dollars, with an average annual growth of 9.9%, 4 percentage points higher than the global level. Its share in global import market rose up by 1.6 percentage points. The total turnover of the CIIE in five years exceeded 340 billion US dollars, with 129 developing countries (including 44 least developed countries) participating. All global enterprises, huge or small, could share China’s market opportunities and achievements through CIIE.

As the largest developing country, China has always adhered to the principle of “working for common progress and prioritizing justice”, closely related its progress with the common development of developing countries, and firmly supported the least developed countries in strengthening their own capacity and achieving revitalization and development. International trade is an important engine for the economic growth of developing countries, especially the least developed countries. Over the past five years, CIIE has consistently invited the least developed countries, and provided free booths, construction subsidies and preferential tax policies for the retention and purchase of exhibits. In addition, CIIE has assisted them in promoting local featured products, traditional crafts and tourism culture in order to introduce them to Chinese consumers, share opportunities in China’s large market with them, practicing the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind deeply. Goods from the least developed countries have been continuously introduced into the Chinese market through CIIE. From 2017 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of imports from Afghanistan, East Timor, Djibouti, Sao Tome and Principe, Togo and other countries exceeded 50%, of which Djibouti was as high as 675%. A large number of featured products was widely accepted by Chinese consumers.

The 6th CIIE will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) from November 5 to 10, 2023, hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, and organized by the China International Import Expo Bureau and the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. International organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the International Trade Centre will be partners.

The 6th CIIE is still composed of Country Exhibition, Enterprise & Business Exhibition, Hongqiao Forum, professional supporting activities and people-to-people exchanges. The Country Exhibition will be held offline to invite willing countries to display their national images, and gather high-quality resources for trade negotiations and cooperation, with guests of honor set. The Enterprise & Business Exhibition will be divided into six exhibition areas of intelligent industry & IT, consumer goods, food and agricultural products, automobile, medical equipment & healthcare products, and trade in services, where exhibitors from all countries could display goods, technologies and services. The exhibition areas are continuously optimized, and efforts are made to build a “digital CIIE” platform. The Hongqiao Forum will invite relevant international political leaders, important guests from industry, academic and research circles for dialogues and exchanges around cutting-edge issues such as global openness based on its orientation as an international public good. Professional supporting activities and people-to-people exchanges will avail various countries, international organizations, industry associations, enterprises, etc., to give full play to their respective advantages, hold various supporting activities such as matchmaking and signing, product display, people-to-people and cultural exchange, and integrate economic, trade and people-to-people cooperation.
